On February 28, China Engineering & Consulting Association (CECA) announced the list of winners of the "2021 Excellent Survey and Design Award for Engineering Survey, Architectural Design Industry and Municipal Public Works" (hereinafter referred to as the "2021 Industry Excellent Survey and Design Award"). The award winners include ten projects of GMC's two subsidiaries, Guangzhou Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Landscape Architecture Design & Research Institute.
The Industry Excellent Survey and Design Award is selected every two years. It is the highest industrial award organized by CECA and is also included in the Catalogue of Reserved Projects for National Evaluation and Commendation.
Sanya Forum Center
First Prize for Intelligent Building Design, First Prize for Water System Engineering Design
Sanya Forum Center is located in Sanya, Hainan Province, with a total construction area of 210,000 km2. It mainly comprises a superior five-star hotel, forum exhibition center, low-rise single-family villas, and commercial supporting facilities.
The project has built a high-reliability communication network platform and an intelligent comprehensive management platform, and established an intelligent equipment private network with digital security technology to provide an all-around intelligent security guarantee for project operation. By collecting and analyzing various energy consumption such as water and electricity, the project realizes energy itemized management, energy consumption monitoring management, energy consumption analysis and audit, and dynamic energy management. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is adopted in the project, effectively solving the pipeline design and installation problem caused by arc space. The superior five-star hotel has taken measures such as increasing the permeability of louvers and setting up floating bottom plates to significantly improve buildings' energy conservation and noise reduction level.
Lingnan He Yuan
First Prize for Landscape and Ecological Environment Design
Located in Shunde District, Foshan, Lingnan He Yuan (Harmony Garden), with the theme of "landscape, downtown, and home", aims to create a boutique garden in Lingnan that shows the historical and cultural connotation of Lingnan and the life characteristics of Shunde. For the first time in China, the project integrates the design terms of Lingnan gardens in the four stages of "Ming and Qing dynasties, the late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China, the Republic of China, and the People's Republic of China". It unfolds a picture of the harmonious integration of natural landscape and urban life in a region along the river with "six scenes of the He Yuan". He Yuan inherits the essence of the Lingnan Garden and the spirit of inclusive innovation, indicating a contemporary practice of revitalizing traditional culture.

Foundation Pit Support, And Drainage Engineering Design for Chimelong Panda Hotel
Second Prize for Engineering Survey
Chimelong Panda Hotel is located in Chimelong Tourist Resort, Panyu District, Guangzhou. The terrain of the project site fluctuates greatly, with a maximum height difference of 28m. The nearby park roads and huge tourist flow challenge the project survey. The drainage and pressure relief system is adopted for the anti-floating of the basement to replace the original anti-pullout anchor bolt practice. This not only effectively ensures the anti-floating effect of the basement, but also makes the whole project completed nearly six months ahead of schedule, saving about RMB 10 million in cost, which is of great significance to the promotion of the drainage and pressure relief system.
Zhuhai Tower
Second Prize for Architectural Design
Zhuhai Tower is located in Shizimen CBD, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai, with a total construction area of 147,000 km2 and a height of 330 m. It is the tallest building in Zhuhai and Macau. The overall shape is formed by the continuous rotation of an isosceles triangle, creating an iconic landscape in the Shizimen CBD.
To maximize the use of coastal landscape, Zhuhai Tower adopts a triangular plane with rounded corners, forming a beautifully extended continuous curve in the facade shape, full of dynamic and energy. The dynamic silhouette echoes the undulating sea surface, like a twisting beacon by the sea, setting up a new urban landmark for Zhuhai.
Poly Skyline Plaza
(Commercial and Office Building Works of C-1 and C-2 Buildings in Plot IV of Pazhou Village Reconstruction Project)
Second Prize for Architectural Design
Poly Skyline Plaza is located in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, with a total construction area of about 310,000 km2 and a height of 311 m. The building is in the form of a tower, with a double bow-shaped opening on the top. The four facades of the tower are divided into two different curtain wall systems, with a transparent glass curtain wall system for the north and south facades and a metal shading system curtain wall with gradually changing overhang dimensions for the east and west facades. Architectural form and function design integrate the green and low-carbon concept and energy-saving technology to realize the combination of natural ventilation and curtain wall system.
Foshan Public Cultural Complex – Fang Tower
Second Prize for Architectural Structure and Seismic Design
Located in Shunde District, Foshan, Fang Tower, a public cultural complex project, comprises 33 squares of different sizes, including the Foshan Grand Theatre, Foshan City Exhibition Hall, and other venues. The project creatively adopts an ultra-long integral cantilever structure, with a maximum cantilever of 9.6 m. Meanwhile, it adopts a novel dual lateral force-resisting structural system of oblique lattice steel outer frame and steel support core tube. The design incorporates Lingnan's traditional carved wooden window elements, creating a unique visual effect with a hollow shape and a new urban landmark of Foshan.
Nan Fung Global Exhibition and Trade Center (The Place)
Second Prize for Architectural Structure and Seismic Design
Located in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, Nan Fung Global Exhibition and Trade Center has become a landmark building with great visual impact in Pazhou with the shape of each tower floor stacked horizontally cantilevered or retracted and the whole podium stacked horizontally.
The main structure adopts the frame-core tube structure system, and the tower plane is cantilevered layer by layer, with a maximum cantilever of 22 meters. The steel structure triangular truss system with a clear force transmission path is adopted. To prevent continuous collapse, tie rods are arranged in the triangular truss as the second line of defense. The main structure takes top-down construction in the subway ventilation pavilion and passage area. The underground diaphragm wall of the foundation pit support is also used as the outer wall of the main structure. The whole architectural shape integrates the surrounding environment and shows its individuality and representativeness, making it an internationally advanced architectural work in Pazhou.
Foundation Pit Support Project (Phase II) of the Surgery Building of the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University
Third Prize for Engineering Survey
The Surgery Building of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is located in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, also known as "Kelin Building", to commemorate Ke Lin, a famous medical education expert and the former dean of Sun Yat-sen University Zhongshan School of Medicine.
The building was put into operation in 2013. In the second phase of the foundation pit project, a deeper 3-story-and-a-half basement needs to be excavated next to the existing super high-rise basement. Given the existing design, construction technology, and other aspects, it is creatively proposed to adopt new horizontal and vertical transfer beams for foundation pit support, and use reinforced concrete with high rigidity to support and "hold" the basement floor slab of Phase I. The design concept of foundation pit support represents a high level of geotechnical engineering in South China, and its experience has been popularized in similar projects.
GBA International Sports and Cultural Center
Third Prize for Intelligent Building Design
GBA International Sports and Cultural Center is located in the core area of the CBD of Foshan New City, with a total construction area of 155,000 km2. It is a sports and performance commercial complex integrating cultural and sports performance, business, office, retail, catering, and other functions. The design fully considers the needs of independent management, unified operation and maintenance, integrated management of systems, and data connectivity among business formats, so as to realize resource sharing.
Landscape Quality Improvement of Lu Lake Park
Third Prize for Landscape and Ecological Environment Design
Located in the west of Guangzhou, Lu Lake is the largest artificial reservoir in downtown Guangzhou. The Lu Lake Park Landscape Quality Improvement Project is the first to bring the "organic renewal" theory into the park renewal. Through three major steps of "overall protection, base renewal, and fine improvement", the site is renewed based on retaining the charm of the Lu Lake landscape. After the landscape improvement, Lu Lake Park has become a famous landscape garden model in Guangzhou, a spring and autumn flower viewing spot, and a good place for the leisure and entertainment of nearby residents.
