On the morning of March 26, Liang Huqing, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of GMC, attended the 2023 Asia Youth Leaders Forum held in Nansha District, Guangzhou by invitation and delivered a keynote speech. He shared GMC's specific practices in actively contributing to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (hereinafter the "Greater Bay Area") under the theme of "pacesetter for high-quality development".

According to Mr. Liang, GMC has always adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, kept pace with the times, grasped the major historical opportunities of the development of the Belt and Road and the Greater Bay Area, focused on high-quality development, thus fulfilling the transformation from a follower to a competitor, and eventually to a leader. In 2022, GMC has seen an operating income of 264.1 billion yuan and total pre-tax profits of 8.7 billion yuan, and new tasks worthy of 296.7 billion yuan, ranking first in the construction industry of the Greater Bay Area and 360th among the Fortune 500 companies. Its goal this year is to increase the operating income and profits by 15%, accelerate the transformation into a world-class urban construction operator, lead the high-quality development of the construction industry in the Greater Bay Area, and make more contributions to China's economic and social development.

Mr. Liang introduced GMC's specific practices in proactively reaching out and contributing to the development of the Greater Bay Area from the following three aspects:

Firstly, GMC seeks high-quality projects to develop the Greater Bay Area. Over the past 74 years since its establishment, GMC has completed multiple landmark buildings, including White Swan Hotel, Tianhe Sports Center, Canton Fair Complex, and Canton Tower. Besides, it has undertaken the production task of the model box for the Tokyo Street MIC commercial and residential project, which is the first modular building with the highest level of integration in Hong Kong. GMC also provides 50% of the MIC modules for Hong Kong. At present, GMC is boosting the construction of over 2,000 projects situated all around the Greater Bay Area, involving urban renewal, airport reconstruction and expansion, rail transit construction, industrial park construction, road and bridge construction, the Green and Beautiful Guangdong Campaign for ecological development, etc. Once completed, the projects will greatly improve the level and quality of cities in the Greater Bay Area.

Secondly, GMC enhances technological innovation to empower smart construction in the Greater Bay Area. GMC has established 112 national and provincial scientific and technological innovation platforms, implemented the Global 100 Postdoctoral Introduction Project, the Five 100s Project, and other high-level talent cultivation programs, and held the Academician Forum on a regular basis. It is the only enterprise in Guangdong Province with the authority for the independent evaluation of senior, intermediate, and junior titles in architecture (engineering) and has built the largest and most technologically advanced prefabricated construction industry base in southern China. In the past five years, GMC has won over 600 scientific and technological progress awards. At present, it is stepping up the preparations for the establishment of the National Key Laboratory of Prefabricated Construction and the Big Data Analysis Center for Digital Construction to build a complete industrial chain for the industrialization of the new architecture.

Thirdly, GMC expands the regional market and deepens cooperation in the Greater Bay Area. Up to now, GMC has regional headquarters in all 11 districts of Guangzhou and 21 prefecture-level cities in the entire province. It has set up regional companies in important node cities in the 1-hour-flight economic circle around the Greater Bay Area, Xinjiang Province, and other regions, and established over 60 regional headquarters in various parts of the country. These companies have brought GMC's advanced construction technology, excellent talents, and first-class management modes to various places, which has effectively improved the local construction industry and promoted the construction of urban infrastructure.

GMC will cooperate with local governments and high-quality enterprises to give full play to the advantages of its complete industrial chain and project implementation ability integrating investment, financing, construction, operation, and management, thus contributing more to the joint development of the beautiful Greater Bay Area, said Mr. Liang.
